We've all made New Year's resolutions in the past and failed to keep them. But very few of us contemplate why we fail? It's not rocket science to understand why the human mind fails to achieve what it sets out to do. Factors can be both external and internal. From then on, it becomes essential to take realistic and precise resolutions. Often, making resolutions without any introspection leads to breaking them in the future. 2022 was a year we never wanted to see again. It was traumatic and life changing for all of us. The pandemic and all the changes it has brought have made us think and see life from a unique perspective. The workforce across the world was remote, the economy was at an all-time low, and physical and mental wellbeing was at stake. It's been a long year for everyone. And most importantly, to the workforce around the world who are still trying to stay afloat in these difficult times. With that in mind, we've got some smart New Year's resolution ideas for employees to help them lead a more productive and healthy lifestyle.

1. Learn a new skill

There's nothing more interesting than learning a new skill. If you're just starting out, make sure you learn all the tools to make your work life easier. Or even take that singing class you've always wanted to take. We reprogram our brain patterns when we decide to step out of our comfort zone to learn something new. So be sure to keep the learning spirit.

2. Be professional

We tend to blame ourselves too much for not acknowledging ourselves or even giving ourselves the credit we deserve. Be kinder to yourself. If something isn't working, give yourself some time and energy to think about it. Value other people's time and your own by being more professional in your work. If you're the person who always arrives at the virtual meeting a few minutes late, now is the best time to break that habit.

3. Pick up a physical activity

We all know the importance of physical activity in our daily life. It maintains our blood circulation and boosts our energy and increases our cellular activity. Resolving to do some physical activity is a great resolution idea. Go for a run or sweat on the treadmill, do whatever you want but make sure you stick to it.

4. Eat more healthy foods

One of the best ways to improve overall health is to include whole foods in our diet. Whole foods are unprocessed, unrefined plant foods such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and whole grains. They contain a multitude of essential nutrients for our body. If you're one of those who don't prefer to eat vegetables or fruit, get into the healthy habit of eating whole foods at least in one meal. You can skip the extra cheese on pizzas or sugary drinks. The problem with processed and refined foods is that they are unhealthy and addictive. But the idea is to figure out how much to eat these unhealthy foods. Stay moderate and check your calories to keep your body and mind healthy.

5. Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is being aware and present in the moment, to witness what surrounds us from moment to moment. Mindfulness gives us clarity of thought and consensus to help us build resilience and positive energy. To be more mindful, you can meditate regularly, even for 5 minutes, or simply sit and observe your thoughts and emotions without judgment. Sleep deprivation negatively affects brain and cognitive functions. Sleeping well is like doing your body a favor. Make sure to finish your work and go to bed early and get at least 7-8 hours of sleep.

6. Limit screen time

Digital screens are the worst energy drains. Before you know it, you end up wasting your important hours browsing or watching stupid cat videos. Watch your screen time and make sure you don't waste your time and energy. You can set a timer or use an app to monitor your screen time. If your current screen time is 5-6 hours a day, you can try slowly reducing it to 2-3 hours, keeping this in mind. Most of us decide to read more every year, but we fail. Or else plan to read a book a week. Let's be nicer and more realistic here. We don't all need to be knowledgeable and smart in a year. Read the books you really need. The books that will help shape your goals and motivate you. If you're not an avid reader but want to get into this healthy habit, start with one book a month.

7. Build yourself professionally

There are millions of productivity apps that can help clear up your thinking process. Remove self-satisfying apps and replace productivity tools. For example, listening to your audiobooks while doing your daily tasks is much more productive than regular music. Networking is very important for personal and professional growth. Build a network and learn to collaborate to develop your skills and understanding of your profession. These are the people who run a business, and this is where you can find all the knowledge. Build a good relationship with people. Relaunch your handles on social networks and send requests to the right people.

8. Work on your soft skills

Communication skills are one of the most important skills to have. The right communication skills can win you places and earn you the respect you crave. So work on those soft skills. Speak with passion, listen actively and maintain an empathetic attitude. Do something every day that can challenge you and give you new insights. Working at the best company, meeting ordinary people, going to the same restaurant every weekend is all part of your comfort zone. Engage in activities that can change your beliefs, even if it doesn't seem easy. Growth stops when a person is very comfortable, so keep challenging yourself.

9. Make a routine

The right routine defines your day. The mainstream culture may believe that following a simple morning routine leads to greater productivity. Take your morning as your growth plan and give it a subjective approach. For example, a morning routine for a writer and a sportsman would be completely opposite because their goals are different. So establish a morning routine that works for you. Multitasking isn't always good. Focusing on a single task can generate more productivity. Make a to-do list and organize your work commitment and focus on one at a time to bring more clarity of thought and better results.

10. Reinvent yourself

It might be time for some serious life change if you're not quite happy with whatever you're doing. You have to reinvent yourself and take yourself to places you never dreamed of. There's no bad time to learn anything new. If you're 30 and want to get into dance classes, go for it. Better to be excited about new things than to be bored to death.
